As a Peer Support Specialist, you will utilize your personal lived experience with mental health challenges and your recovery journey to offer guidance, support, and hope to individuals receiving treatment.
You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team to create a collaborative and inclusive environment that promotes overall wellness and recovery.
Your primary responsibility will be to establish meaningful connections, share personal insights, and serve as a role model for individuals seeking support.
Key
Responsibilities:
Peer Support:
Engage in one-on-one and group interactions with individuals in the behavioral health facility, offering empathy, active listening, and unconditional support.
Recovery Coaching:
Share personal experiences and coping strategies to inspire hope and empower individuals in their recovery journey.
Advocacy:
Advocate for the rights and needs of individuals receiving treatment, promoting self-advocacy and informed decision-making.
Wellness Promotion:
Collaborate with the treatment team to develop and facilitate wellness and recovery-focused activities, workshops, and support groups.
Education and Resources:
Provide information about community resources, self-help tools, and mental health education materials to help individuals build resilience and develop a support network.
Documentation:
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of interactions, progress notes, and other required records in compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
Lived
Experience:
Must have personal lived experience with mental health challenges and or addiction and demonstrate stability in personal recovery.
Certification:
Possess or be willing to pursue certification as a Peer Support Specialist or Recovery Support Specialist in accordance with local requirements.
Compassion and Empathy:
Ability to connect with individuals on a personal level, demonstrating empathy, active listening, and non-judgmental attitudes.
Communication Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey ideas, experiences, and support effectively.
Boundaries and Ethics:
Maintain professional boundaries and adhere to ethical guidelines when sharing personal experiences and supporting individuals.
Team Player:
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team to achieve common goals.
Resilience:
Exhibit personal resilience and emotional stability to handle challenging situations with composure and adaptability.
Organizational Skills:
Effective time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
