The final year for the German-made Beetle, 1979 saw only 900 Epilogues produced.
This one is equipped with the fuel-injected 1585cc engine, 4-speed manual transmission and VDO clock, and it will be sold with books, records and the original tool kit.
A radio-delete car, it seems only fitting that a final-edition car, particularly one representing such a well-loved automobile, be in reflective silence without a radio.
After all, for many, it wasn't a party.
Previously part of a private collection, the Epilogue Editions are very important to the company history, marking the segue between original concepts and new ideas.
By the time the last German-made Beetle exited the assembly line in January 1980, 21,529,464 had been built, marking it as the longest-running production car ever using the same platform.
It provided transportation for countless people around the world, and it was popular and inexpensive to purchase and maintain, largely a part of the Beetle appeal.
Times were changing rapidly by the mid-1970s though; demands on auto makers were fierce-emissions and safety standards led the charge and Volkswagen realized the end was near for Beetle.
With competition from all sides eroding sales, it simply wasn't feasible to continue production; it was time to introduce a modern vehicle for modern times.
The last Beetles were convertibles, and all Epilogue Edition examples were produced in 1979.
Each wore a triple-black motif with thin-line whitewall tires, again, rather fitting to mark the occasion of the end of an era and the end of a legend.
With only 900 having been produced, finding one in exemplary condition is a rare treat, especially one that is as original as this one with only 911 miles since new.
This Bug just had a full fluid service, new fuel tank and sending unit installed.
This example is still riding on its original Continental White Walls.
